Something happened in the second half, though. Manning and the rest of the Colts came to life, outscoring the Pats 32-13 in the final 30 minutes. The guy who couldn't win the big game calmly drove the Colts 80 yards down the field late in the fourth quarter, although it nearly ended in disaster when the ball squirted out of Reggie Wayne's hands after a reception. Joseph Addai pounded it into the end zone from three yards out with a minute left to play, and the Colts clung to a 38-34 lead. Good bye, Patriots. The Colts are going to the Super Bowl! |
Baltimore ColtsThe day the NFL became the NFL we know today — because it was a 23-17 overtime thriller, on national television, played in New York, against the marquee Giants, and Johnny Unitas became the living symbol of greatness at quarterback. Also, what the Colts pulled off to drive to the tying field goal at the end of regulation was the prototype of the two-minute drill.
